League round-up

It’s always a bit daunting trying to round-up our league adventures, but mid-July, deep breath, here goes:

 Adults:

Our 1st XI push for promotion has been hit by untimely injuries to skipper Gus Grant and batter Lloyd Paternott, who had been averaging 77. The 2nd XI recovered after a poor start, notably on 10th July when with the entire team from the previous week isolating, a new team came in and beat Ashstead.

Adult 1st XI – 3rd Surrey Championship Div 1

Adult 2nd XI – 6th Surrey Championship 2nd XI Premiership

Adult 3rd XI – 1st Surrey Championship 3rd XI Premiership

Sharks – 2nd Surrey Cricket League Div 1

Adult 4th XI -  3rd Surrey Championship Div 4 East

A strengthened Women’s 1st XI continues to push hard for promotion to the Premiership whilst the 2nd XI are in a strange division, facing strong teams featuring county players some weeks and winning by 10 wickets others.

Women’s 1st XI: 1st Womens Cricket Southern League Championship

Women’s 2nd XI: 5th Surrey Womens Cricket League - Div 1

Our previous success in the midweek Surrey Slam continues, with the Sunday team being mainly Academy players:

Surrey Slam Women’s A: 1st

Surrey Slam Midweek N: 1st

Surrey Slam Sunday League A: 4th

Academy

Academy matches are always later in the year, exams pushing back fixtures. But at the time of writing, things have gone very well:

Academy 1st XI – 1st  Surrey Trust League Tier 1 North –

Academy 2nd XI – 1st Surrey Trust League Tier 3 South

Spencer Spitfires U19 – 1st U19 ECB T20 Tier 1 East

U17 1st XI -  1st Tier 1 Denis Jacobs Cup

U17 2nd XI – 4th Tier 2 North East

 Juniors:

The Junior league season is nearly over, still some going strong in Cup competitions, notably the BU15 who are in the knockout stages of the ECB Cup. With this being the first season of the new Surrey Junior Cricket Championship and with the Girls leagues also growing, it’s been less predictable than previous years. But we simply can’t get beyond the amazing volunteer effort to put out 54 league teams, providing access to matches for many hundreds of children.

There are obviously a ton of people to thank for enabling over 500 league matches to take place with teams wearing Spencer colours. We can’t possibly name everyone but special thanks to one person - Per-Arne Johnsen, whose mighty Springtime spreadsheet, figuring out teams / grounds / days enables everyone else to do their bit. Dieu défend le droit!
