Celebrating the imminent publication of Christians, Criminals, City Bankers, the history of Spencer CC, Saturday 10th July saw a reunion of some notable former Spencer members.

Those who attended included Roy Lewis and Mike Edwards, both of whom feature in the book’s ‘Greatest Ever’ Spencer XI. Also an honoured guest was Percy Plunkett who captained the 1994 Spencer team who won the Surrey Championship. Together with Lewis, also present were Graham Gayton and Tony Booth who all played in Spencer’s Decca Cup final triumph at the Oval in 1974, with Booth wearing his late father’s Spencer blazer for the occasion. Whilst for some it was their first visit to Fieldview in decades, pride of place has to go to Mike Edwards who is permanently pictured on the clubhouse walls, featuring in a shot of the 2nd XI from 1955! Thanks to all who came and it’s hoped that all present will return next year during the club’s 150th anniversary.

In a picture of members and relatives from the 1960’s and 70’s, Chairman Matt Nunn (4th right) stands in-between two Spencer greats: (l) Roy Lewis who played over 50 games for Surrey and scored over 25,000 runs for Spencer and (r) Mike Edwards who played nearly 350 Surrey matches between 1961 and 1974.

Thanks to Jenny Brown for the pictures, especially the fantastic shot of the book’s cover. More of her work can be found in the book which will be on sale shortly.
